corrupt file?????? run the chkdsk utility??

I am trying to open some of my files and it keeps telling me the file is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk Utility... I've searched my computer for 'chkdsk utility' and cannot find that. Please help!!

    Open My Computer, right-click the drive (e.g. drive C) > Properties > Tools Tab > Check Now, put a tick in Automatically fix file system errors > Start.

    If you receive the message that it cannot be performed at the moment, do you want to schedule it for the next time the computer restarts, reply Yes.

    Alternatively you can click start > run

    then type in the run box chkdsk /r
