Update for Windows 7 (KB2454826)

I often get a notification telling me that I have an update available.  This update is (KB2454826).  On the update itelf, it reads "This is a reliable update."  When I update this, it crashes my computer.  How can I tell if this is a legitament update or just a virus?  If it's a virus, how do I get it to stop prompting my computer for a download?

[1] KB2393802 is an intalled update.

[2] Norton Security Suite [is installed]...McAfee [Security Center] was installed a year or so back...

[3] Norton [Internet?] Security was originally installed, but long expired.

Please answer all of the following diagnostic questions by number in your very next reply (no need to quote this post):

    A1. How about KB2482017, KB2485376, KB2479628 & KB2475792?

A2a. Is Norton Security Suite a freebie from your ISP (e.g., Comcast)?

A2b. Did you uninstall McAfee Security Center AND THEN download/run the McAfee Consumer Products Removal Tool BEFORE you installed Norton Security Suite?

A3a. Was Norton [Internet] Security installed when you were running Vista?

A3b. Had your Norton [Internet] Security subscription (or free-trial) already expired by the time you replaced it with McAfee Security Center (I presume)?

A3c. Did you uninstall Norton [Internet] Security AND THEN download/run the Norton Removal Tool BEFORE you installed McAfee Security Center?

[HOW TO] Turn Windows features on or off:

TIP: If Media Features is disabled (turned off), please enable it (turn it on) for the time being. I think you'll find that KB2454826 will not install otherwise.

@WesleyIII only: Please answer all of the following diagnostic questions by number in your very next reply (no need to quote this post):

    1. Did you upgrade to Win7, was Win7 preinstalled when you bought the computer, or did you do a clean install?

       • Is my PC running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows?

          http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/find-out-32-or-64-bit

    1. Is it a Win7 64-bit computer?
    2. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current?  What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?  What third-party firewall (if any)?
    3. Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application ever been installed on the computer?
    4. Did a Norton free-trial or a McAfee free-trial come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)
    5. Are KB2483187, KB2393802 & KB2393802 all listed in Installed Updates (not Update History)?

    =======================================

While KB2454826 is an Optional, non-security update (at least for now), it's a Prerequisite for IE9 RC and I suspect it will be a Prerequisite for Win7 SP1, too.
