Help running SimCity 4 on W7 64 bit pc/ cursor issues

Hi everyone - I have a brand new customized HP 450t. Intel i 870 quad core CPU and 2BG Radeon 5570 HD GPU. 8GB of ram.

I am a *die hard* SimCity 4 player, and have installed disc one and two on my machine without issue. During my 1st game play, the cursor changed from it's normal arrow shape to a white line about an inch long, smooth on one side and a rigid, triangle pattern on other. All mouse functionality ceased at this point. Then the cursor turned into a square, about an inch in size, with rainbow-coloured pixels, and still no ability to click or select anything. Task manager was the only way for me to close the game down.

I have run SC4 on our 8 year old home-built (XPpro) pc without ever an issue. I have even for a short time run the game on my Vaio laptop, with the only issue being incredible ram consumption resulting in the gameplay being too slow to even bother.

But I've never seen this type of issue before. I have not tried again. After reading online of the possible compatilbility issues between SC4 and W764bit, I am unsure how to proceed. Yes I know Microsoft's site advises that SC4 IS compatible. But I truly think if that were the case, so many hundreds of users would not be reporting issues on this forum as well as others.

Any advice on whether I should even bother, tips, tricks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much!!!

Hi   aenflex,

Through my research, I have found that SimCity 4 is *Societies;*please correct me if this is wrong.

Windows 7 compatibility center says SimCity Societies is not compatible and so does the game manufacturer
