I clicked on HIDDEN ATTRIBUTES under USER, now a bunch of my desktop folders and shortcuts have disappeared

I was running my antivirus, and saw that there was a file under a subfolder to my user folder. That folder was hidden, because I could not click down on it. So I went to the user list, found my user name, and there were two check boxes, one for READ ONLY (which was checked) and one for HIDDEN, which I thought checking off would reveal those hidden folders that I needed to find, to find this questionable file. Also figured I could get rid of other unnecessary files while there.

This action went through a bunch of sub folders, and when it was done, a bunch of my folders on my desktop disappeared. A bunch of shortcuts to installed programs also disappeared (though not all shortcuts). The folders in question contained some zipped files for programs I installed, my music, pictures, videos, all personal stuff. I clicked on users again, and am not seeing my profile, however when I look at users, I see ADMIN and my name together for the whole folder. Nothing showed up in the recycle bin.

I have to believe these folders are still somewhere on the computer. because there was no warning to state stuff was being deleted. Any assistance to find these missing or hiding folders and restore things to where they were is greatly appreciated.

Type in Start - Help and Support

    Show hidden files

Just do what you did in reverse to undo.
