Windows Update (KB2463332) Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 4 Fails (Twice).
I didn't ask for it. The update referenced in the title just showed up as a windows update, as usual. This is not the first time I've had a problem with windows update in Windows 7.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit. When windows tries to update my computer with the update described in the title, it fails. The first time it failed with error code 6B2. The second time the error code was 80070005.
After these failures, I downloaded the service pack directly from Microsoft. The name of the file is: "SQLServer2005SP4-KB2463332-x64-ENU.exe" I cannot believe the ridiculous problems that I encounter trying to run this update. It keeps asking me to browse to the correct path for various and sundry .msi files. Are not these files contained in the "SQLServer2005SP4-KB2463332-x64-ENU.exe" file and shouldn't the installer know this. Who's writing this software for Microsoft, anyway, a bunch of monkeys? I'm serious!
There's a free banana in it for anyone who can provide the answer.
I anticipate that all the monkeys will take offense to my query and that I will not receive a response. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you that I really don't care!
I just wanted to let you all know what I think about the quality of your work.

2011-10-21T02:26:33+00:00 Hey Charles,
I'm sure you won't be in the least bit surprised to find that almost a year later i am having a very similar problem with sp4 upgrade also.
The ONE program i need SQL 2005 for i have been trying to get to run for almost 3 weeks on my Win 7 64 bit machine and the situation is bordering on the ludicrous.
Just in the last 4 days i have 'magically' been told by 'my' computer ( with Win 7 i no longer have a computer - the computer has me for a dumb-assed slave who sometimes needs to be told what to do and who more often can be totally ignored as it does whatever the f*** it wants to) that i have a 50+mb update to Sql 2005 no less than THREE times and each time my update list shows me it has been loaded 'successfully' ( exactly the same Kb number each time).
Strange how the update did not appear when i first installed SQL 2005 three weeks ago - but what they hey.
I don't know what the monkeys over at MS are doing these days to earn their mega peanuts but frankly - i've had just about enough. I will NEVER be purchasing any MS product again - it is not worth my sanity.
Apple or Linux - here i come.
Thanks for the offer but i don't like bananas! ;-)

2011-01-30T09:25:52+00:00 Hi Charles_cotton,
The error code 80070005 usually means that you do not have enough permission to install updates. Access can be denied if you are logged on to the computer as a standard user and this account does not have the proper permissions to install updates.
To resolve the issue follow the steps listed in the methods below.
Method 1:
Log on to the computer as an Administrator or as a user with Administrative rights.
Method 2:
One of the most common causes of this error code (Access Denied) is the Anti Virus and Anti Spyware software programs running on the computer. You can try turning them off and then try the updates again.
Note: Running the computer without firewall or the anti-virus software is a potential threat to the computer; make sure to enable the security software after completing the troubleshooting steps and after identifying the issue.
Method 3: Try running the Windows Update troubleshooter and check if the issue gets fixed.
To run the Windows Update troubleshooter refer:
Open the Windows Update troubleshooterhttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Update-troubleshooter
Method 4:
If the issue persists, download and save the installation package onto your desktop again and try installing the same in clean boot and check.
To do that, you need to enter the KB number of the Windows update in the search field of the below provided link.
Download Center linkhttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/Or refer this below link. How to obtain the latest service pack for SQL Server 2005http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913089
Refer the following Microsoft KB article for more information on how to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7:

Note: After troubleshooting, make sure to put the computer to start as usual as mentioned in Step 7 in the above KB article.
