I went to the windows 7 pages and typed in "HP Scanjet 4600 series"  It said it was compatible with my 32 bit Windows 7. in fact it also said "This product installs automatically without extra software"

So I installed it and got this message...."This program has known compatibility issues" "Hp Image zone is incompatable with this version of Windows"

So....is that it?? No solutions or anything....I cannot find any answers anywhere...I really love this scanner and if there is a possibilty of making it work with Windows 7 I would sure like to know how !!

Here is where I found the info:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Hardware&p=HP%20Scanjet%204600%20See-Thru%20Flatbed%20Scanner&v=HP&uid=Q3112AA2L&pf=0&pi=0&os=32-bit

You should have viewed the HP support/drivers page for your model

HP doesnt supply win7 specific drivers for this device, they only supply the HP basic Feature Vista driver. The HP software supplied is for winxp and as such may not function under win7

I agree. don't support a company that doesn't update its products! I'll probably do the same.

We can regret that HP has not be aware of this issue into repeated a lot into various forum by unsatisfied users.

I reckon HP would be fully aware. When I installed Windows 7 a year ago, I contacted HP to enquire about the Scanjet 4800 series, which has the same problem as the 4600 series. The driver is available and enables basic scanning, but the driver doesn't enable scanning of slides and other special functions. That requires other HP software that comes with specific scanners and HP told me they had no intention of releasing a 4800 series software update for Windows 7.

So I uninstalled everything HP and purchased a Canon CanoScan 5600F and was delighted to discover that it does a much better job than the HP ever did, and does it easier. I won't be going back to HP anytime soon!

It works!! I thought it wasn't compatible, but with Windows Update, it works!!! I had Windows update do a search for the driver and now it scans!

no thank to HP, though! I guess they just left it up to Microsoft!
