Adding degrees on Calculator

Anonymous
2010-01-28T20:49:48+00:00

I wish to add some angles measured in degrees, minutes and seconds on the Calculator. For example, if I wish to add 12 deg. 58' 43" + 28 deg 22' 32" + 23 deg. 52' 27"...

(a) How do I enter these values in the Calculator

(b) If I must enter them in a "decimal fashion" (viz., 12.5843+28.2232+23.5227) how do I get the Calculator to correctly read the answer, which is 65 deg. 13' 33" ???

If you wish to answer via e-mail, I can be reached at ....

Thanks in advance.

    Dickbash,

Hello, access your calculator and then Click the View menu, and then click Scientific.

Use DMS to convert decimals to degrees, minutes, seconds, and  INV + DMS to convert degrees, minutes, seconds to decimal.

    I hope this helps!

Dick - I just found out how to do what your are trying to do.  All calculation must be done in degrees, but you can enter numbers in DMS format.  Example:  Add 12 deg. 58' 43" to 28 deg 22' 32".

Enter the first number as 12.5843 and then convert to degrees  (Inv + deg), then add (+) the second number as 28.2232 and convert it to degrees (Inv + deg), then total (=) and convert to total to DMS using the DMS key, which results in 41.2115 or 41 deg 21' 15".

    Thanks for the helpful answer.

Do you know how to do this in the Windows 10 calculator? Its Scientific mode has a "DMS" key, but no "Inv" checkbox or key!

Lisa - that still did not answer Dick's question as to how to enter a number as DMS - in other words, how do you enter 10 degress, 39 minutes, 26 seconds into the calculator?
