Windows Media Player-how to add audio files to existing playlist

Editing existing playlist in Player 12 - Big Pain

In previous versions of media player I could drag a song from a windows explore panel directly into a playlist. so adding media was a snap to a playlist. Now you have to open it in the play panel, add the media, and then you HAVE TO CREATE A BRAND NEW NAME FOR THE PLAYLIST which is ABSURD! In other words you can't edit the playlist, hit SAVE, and the playlist you are working on is saved. You always have to create a NEW name. What I do is add a '1' to the old name, create the NEW name, and then I have to go back and delete the old list. Again. this is ridiculously cumbersome. Can Microsoft address this problem? Does anyone else find this to be a major pain?

What original name? If you are editing an Unsaved playlist, then it doesn't have a name yet. It's perfectly normal that you need to enter a name when you click Save list the first time. The next time you save, you won't have to enter a name anymore (because then it's not an unsaved playlist anymore).

    Thanks Tim,

I am trying to add new media into an already existing playlist. they say to highlight the playlist, touch 'play' which moves the whole playlist into the edit playlist panel on the far right. I add songs. then when I hit 'save' - it wants me to put in a whole new name for the list. won't just save the EXISTING list. or maybe I am doing something wrong...

    thanks, Jheckfam

    Paul,

thanks for your response - nice to know I'm not crazy on this. Microsoft doesn't seem to get what we are talking about. they've responded but not with helpful solutions. there are ways to drag content from an explore file window into a saved playlist. but it isn't nearly as easy as it used to be.

Read this and check the previous question logs.......

Window Media Player 12 and the ongoing Playlist unsaved list issue Case #2009121101152

Case #2009121101152- To Whom this may concern......:(

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-sound/problem-with-windows-media-player-12-playlists/cd1750d2-f8ed-4049-9150-0d893cf69ff2?page=1&tab=AllReplies#tabs

Where do I begin, well let me try to frame this ongoing issue through a time line of sorts.  When Windows 7 first came out about 2 years ago I ordered a new Dell XPS 16 for my girlfriend.  Almost immediately I encountered a problem with Windows Media Player 12 and playlist functionality. Apparently since the software was so new I was the first to contact Microsoft regarding this particular problem.  Going back I first called Dell with no solution, I even paid Microsoft tech support $70.00 and still could not find a solution. In total I must have spent at least 15 hours on the phone at various times to solve this extremely frustrating issue. Eventually this insanity led me to Microsoft Web forum where I vented my frustration openly. Within days I had a number of replies from others users who were having the same issue. Eventually someone from Microsoft product development called me and we attempted to find a solution.  In end however it was determined that there was no solution that what I had found was in his words a bug in the programing and that a patch would need to issued, in order to fix the problem. Well it’s been 2 years and I've yet to see a fix for what should be a very simple patch. My old computer with Windows XP finally died forcing me buy a new Dell notebook.  So after my purchase and setup I went windows 12 and guess what the problem hasn’t been fixed! What the F%^$#$@#@ My question is why has this gone on so long? Why hasn’t Microsoft fixed this issue?  I’ve e checked the previous entries in Microsoft’s support center web forum and multiple people have same issue. It hasn’t gone away or least no one has a work around.  I implore you to look at all this under my user name pfgray2008 or case number 2009121101152. I still can’t believe Microsoft would drop the ball on something like this especially since it’s a fundamental function within Window Media player.  If anyone who actually cares that receives email please contact me and let me know what if anything is every going to be done.

How exactly are you saving the playlist?

When editing a playlist on my system, I can just click the Save list button at the top, without having to enter a new name.
