How can I send a fax without a fax machine? I have a printer attached to the PC, as well as a scanner. The "Wizard" does not open. I get an opportunity to create a new fax instead.

    Hi John,

Perhaps the following will assist you in setting up the system to send faxes.  Remember that sending a new fax is like creating a new fax from the computer's perspective - it only a matter of whether or not you have information already available to fax as opposed to starting from scratch.  http://www.ehow.com/how_6503771_send-fax-windows-vista.html.

Here's an additional article that essentially says the same thing: http://www.ehow.com/how_6795144_use-scan-fax-send-fax.html.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

it was my pleasure.  Glad I could help.  Some of that may or may not apply depending on your version of Vista; however, given that you said you had a Wizard, I assumed you had a version which included the appropriate sotware.  BTW, I found the following which profides additional information on setting up faxing: http://www.techfuels.com/windows-vista/14184-configuring-windows-vista-fax.html.  If I am wrong (and you have Vista Basic, Starter, or Premiium, which do not come with the Fiax and scan sorware option), then post back and let me know and I'll find you some 3rd party product that will work for you.

If you wish assistance on the missing Help functions, start a new thread in the Systetm Repair and Recovery Topic of the Vista Forum and someone will be more than happy to assisr you with that issue.  I don't want to mix up this thread with two different topics so nobody will be able to find answers later with a good search.

    Good luck and best wishes!

    On my PC-expert wife's advice, when I ordered a custom-built PC in 2008, I

got it with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Back when I was working, I used

to send a literal blizzard of faxes every day, using a FAX machine.

The FAX device is now set up on my computer. I have to remember to unplug

the landline and plug in the modem when I want to use the FAX.

Somehow, plugging my PC's modem into the wall seems like a step

backwards<Grin>. There are probably new PCs being sold with NO modem on the

motherboard. In 2008, my machine's big technical jump was a lack of a 3.5"

floppy drive. Back in the REAL old days, when I was in grad school, we used

a duplex device, and we liked it!<GRIN>

    Thanks again,

    John

For quick faxes, i would suggest use a free internet fax such as sendfreefax.net.  It is ads free and there is no daily limits.

Thank you for the fast answer. I knew I already had the technology in front of me, but for some unknown reason, my "HELP" function in ALL of my Windows products does not work. Vista, Office, it doesn't matter; the help does not work. I have to use the Internet for help. Thanks again!
