How do I get rid of a pop-up which keeps appearing?

The following pop-up keeps appearing on my Dell laptop and whatever answer I give makes no difference:

My Dell Downloads - Some of the factory-installed software on your system is also available from My Dell Downloads web site. You can download copies to reinstall most of the factory-installed software on your computer. Please choose one of the following:

 - Visit My Dell Downloads site now (recommended)

 - Remind me later

 - Do not remind me

Dell DataSafe Local Backup appears at the bottom of the pop-up together with a clickable OK button.

According to this forum post, you need to uninstall it:

Go to Control Panel, then to Programs, then to Uninstall a Program.  Look for the Dell Datasafe programs.  Uninstall them.  The popup will go away.

In that same thread, a Microsoft MVP strongly recommends you do not uninstall it, but instead, resolve the issues presented by the 'My Dell Downloads' pop up

OK, that works, thanks very much. i agree with other comments in the thread about this glitch. Dealing with the issues raised in the pop-up appeared to make no difference.

I tried this suggestion, but none of the possible entries I unchecked made any difference.

To explain further, the pop-up appears between about 90 seconds and 2 minutes after I sign in. If I try the'Remind me later' or 'Don't remind me' options, the pop-up goes down off the screen, but comes back up again within about 10-60 seconds. I also visited the Downloads site and downloaded some of the software. This also made no difference.

    Click Start, type: msconfig

    Hit Enter on your keyboard

Go to the Start up tab

Uncheck any of the related entries.

Click Apply and OK to confirm changes

    Restart when prompted.
