On my laptop, I use to be able to slide my finger down the left side adn it would automatically scroll down the page I was on as if I was using the scroll bar.

How do I get that turned back on?

thanks

    Hi Scott

Touchpad settings and options will vary between manufacturers of laptops, depending on the brand of touchpad that the manufacturer installs.

Open Control Panel/Mouse properties. Look for a touchpad tab where you will find these settings. If this does not work, look for a separate Touchpad component in Control Panel.

You can also consult the documentation for that laptop for information, or contact the laptop manufacturers support.

Let us know what you find.

    Regards.

    I have the solution.

Control Panel -> Mouse -> Device Settings (Often has a logo on this tab) -> Settings -> Scrolling -> Enable Vertical and Horizontal scrolling -> Apply / OK.

    :)

This is the process on a Dell Inspiron 15R running Windows 8.1.

Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Personalization>Change mouse pointers>Dell touchpad>Click to change Dell Touchpad settings

    Hope this helps.

I also have an Acer Aspire and what worked was to click on the tab for the touchpad.  Mine was labeled "Elan".  It was the rightmost tab, to the right of the "Hardware" tab.  I then clicked on "Options" and then "Edge Scroll".  I checked the "Vertical scroll" checkbox and then the "Apply" button.

See if you have something similar.
