I know that XP supported 4 gig of RAM when it first shipped. What I want to know is if during all of it's upgrades it has increased to 8 gig in the 32 bit version of XP pro

All of the NT 32-bit clients (NT4 Workstation , Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7) support a maximum of 4GB, none of them them support any more than that.  Note that some specialized versions (like Starter Editions) may support less than 4GB.

Just to add a little to John's answer above, technically John is correct. 4gb is the stated max. However, I have never seen Xp detect more than 3.5Gb. I have Xp Pro x32 with 4Gb installed. My Xp says I have 3.43Gb. I have seen some only recognize 3.32Gb. Much of this is dependent on whether your graphics are integrated or card.

The link below will give you the ram limits for all Windows OS.

That is false.  The original 32-bit Windows XP release and the SP1 version were (are) capable of using the full 4GB of RAM with the use of the /PAE switch (Physical Address Extension).  However, Microsoft started to notice an increase in bad driver behaviour with PAE usage so they made some changes in SP2 which limits the memory address space and as a result the maximum usable RAM on SP2 and later is usually around 3.2 GB.

Hi.One of the moderators may correct me on this but.Windows XP as far as I know only ever used 2.5 gig of memory at the top end.Anything over that was not used. Not sure about Pro but I would suspect it is the same.Never heard of XP useing 4 gig at any time.
