Windows 7 does not recognize SimpleTech 250GB external USB drive

I have read the threads on this topic, and I have not seen anyone else able to get this to work.

Just bought a new computer, running Win 7.  Drive worked fine on Win XP.  I checked in device manager but the real problem is that there is no driver for the Simple Tech drive.  They must have been bought by Hitachi, as simpletech is now a legacy product and not supported.  I find it hard to believe that a external USB 2.0 drive can't work with Win 7.  There must be another driver we can use to get this drive to work.

Tried other USB ports, still does not work. Rebooted, turned on or off before and after restarting... etc. nothing matters.  It shows in device manager with a yellow !, but can't get any farther.

Interestingly enough it shows a "mass usb storage" device under usb controllers.  see pic:

Is it really possible that this drive will never work with Win 7?

Thank you for your help.

    Hi,

According to Windows 7 compatibility center, this drive is **compatible******with Windows 7.

You must download and install extra software to make it work with Windows 7. Click on the link mentioned below and download the appropriate software for your Hard drive.

As you can easily discern from the many, many posts on this same issue, the problem with the thousands of these units out there, including mine, is that they need a workable driver for windows 7. It's not the cord, the port, the partition or drive letter setup, the powered interface, or anything else that responders have replied to the hundreds of forum posts to this same problem. Simpletech is the only POS external HDD that requires drivers to work thru USB (contrary to their false advertising claiming it will work with any computer with USB!!).

Really, should it be this hard to fix this problem? The thing works with Vista and back, why can't it work with windows 7??! There must be a generic or alternate driver or method that can be forced into device manager some way to work with this drive. I've spend hours a day for several days trying everything possible with no luck!! Hitachi doesn't seem willing to help the thousands of people who have drives that are now only bricks with windows 7, and Microsoft techs haven't solved it yet after years and a long list of questions in the Q&A forum. I'd like to think that I do not need to go through buying a newer enclosure/USB interface to make this work on a perfectly working laptop with Windows 7.

    Anybody??

Mine initially worked on my Windows 7 (64) desktop, then intermittently, and now not at all.

Same story, but on my Win7 32 Laptop.. anybody found a solution?

I cannot find ANY "appropriate software" to download from this site.

Has anyone been able to find drivers for these devices? Mine initially worked on my Windows 7 (64) desktop, then intermittently, and now not at all. However it works on my Windows 7 laptop and XP laptop. Any ideas?
