Hi

The Journal is a program designed for a Tablet PC, where you use Pen Input to create handwritten notes. These notes can be converted to typed text.

You can type directly into a Journal file using some of the available tools.

Open Windows Journal.

On the Toolbar, select Insert / Text Box.

Use the + cursor to draw the text box over the area where you want to enter the typed text.

Click within the text box and start typing.

If you click outside of the text box, the box will disappear, but your typed text will remain. You will not be able to type again unless the text box is visible.

To make it visible again, on the Toolbar, select Edit and click the Selection Tool. Click somewheree inside where you originally placed the Text Box.

You can also use the other available tools to annotate the typed text.

You can only save as a .JNT journal file.

Hope this helps.

Regards

So all that work to make a Journal app for Windows (which incidentally comes pre-installed on my traditional laptop) and they don't take the extra step to make sure that you can type in the program so that it doesn't require a bunch of hoop jumping to make it functional?

Who's idea was that?  The guy that wants you to go buy an Android tablet?  Well played...

You might give OneNote a try.  It's actually excellent for use as a journal. You can type in it easily, and it allows you to create multiple journals (called "notebooks"), search contents for keywords later, etc etc.

OneNote has many outstanding personal uses. Academic ones, too.  It's a shame that Microsoft usually promotes its use as business note taking system, because it's a very impressive and useful program.

You are absolutely right...OneNote is one of the best programs out there for making a journal.  You can create tabs and folders to organize your research, thoughts, pictures, and drawings.  I have created quite a collection on my OneNote program that I have research information on history, like the Civil War, Pearl Harbor, WWII, and the Great Depression.  I have never-before-seen pictures that I can show students.

This program allows you to copy and paste from practically any website the information you want to retrieve later, and automatically inserts a hyperlink so you can retrieve the website for more information.

I used this program all the way through college.  All of my college notes from each class has a folder with unlimited pages that I referred to as I collected information from pertinent websites that I visited.

An invaluable tool, much more creative than the Journal, which I too, feel is a failure to give a program that you cannot use typing instead of handwriting.  Not everyone has a tablet, and not everyone can write legibally.

    Lynn
