Have you looked in Disk Management to see what Disk3 is?
Event ID 11, Disk: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk3\DR3
As the title says, i get this error in my event viewer a lot. I can't say it causes any issues or blue screens, but i am trying to understand what it means exactly, because i think it may be an indication of a hard disk failure?
I have 3 hard drives on my computer and 1 of them is split in 2 partitions for system and data, 1 usb stick for readyboost. How can i identify what is the drive with the code Harddisk3\DR3? If it is the usb stick i don't care that much, but if it is one of my internal drives i need to make sure i find out which one it is and start checking for errors or backups.
I am on windows 7 home premium x64, fully updated with latest updates from windows update on everything.

2011-03-30T19:48:58+00:00 Most likely culprit: the 1 usb stick for readyboost.
Readyboost on Windows 7 x64 is broken:
On my own computer today, I confirmed that both usb sticks that were dedicated to Readyboost in Windows 7 x64 Ultimate were causing "Event ID 11: Disk: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR1".
When not dedicated to Readyboost, the 2 USB stick were confirmed to be in perfect working order.
I stopped using Readyboost until Microsoft fixes it.
Sincerely,
Daniel

2014-05-21T20:12:54+00:00 You are mistaken! A disk is a complete drive, which may or may not be divided into partitions. The 100mb System Reserved is a partition with no label (letter) located on the same disk / drive as the System (Windows) partition. The System Reserved partition can be larger than 100mb. A hard drive is connected to a port on the motherboard. The ports are numbered 0, 1, 2, etc., and the disk number will match the port number. However, other storage devices can also have a disk number. A hidden partition has no label (letter).
I have had the same problem that blue boy reported above. The other day my computer hung on startup, it didn't even get to the fancy Asus startup screen (i forget what its called but thats when you can enter the bios). It was just a blank screen. This has happened occasionally before but without any effect, I just restart the comp and its fine afterwards.
However this time I checked the event log and noticed an 'Event 11' which said that "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk3\DR3". The only thing is, I don't have a hard disk 3, or a drive 3 of any kind, at least not according to Disk Management.
One a couple of occasions I had this error before it was on a hard disk 2, which was the USB stick I had plugged in at the time. However on this occasion there were no USB sticks plugged in.
I'm usually used to rummaging around and figuring out these issues myself, but im really scratching my head over this. Any help would be much appreciated!

DR stands for Removible Disk, so its probebly a problem with the usb stick for readyboost.
This shouldnt be an issue but it can cause that the usb is a little slower then before.
Its probebly just a error message that has to do with the system not directly finding the usb or something like that.
I hope this answerd some of the question u had.
Greetings,
BM

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload to your OneDrive (formerly Sky Drive), share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode.
Please upload and share with everyone copies of your System and Application logs from your Event Viewer to your OneDrive and post a link here.
To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window expand Windows Logs and select System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log. Do not provide filtered files. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.
