Installing IE 9 64-Bit (and IE 9 32-Bit)

I have Win 7, which has IE 8 32-Bit and IE 8 64-Bit.

I am getting Critical Update notice to install IE 9.

If I do install IE 9, will the 32-Bit AND 64-Bit be installed? Or will only the IE 9 32-Bit be installed?

Please advise.

When I go to the URL you listed, it says it will download IE 9 64-Bit version

If you look more closely, I think you'll find that "it will download" the Windows 7 64-bit version (which will include IE9 32-bit & IE9 64-bit).

If it's a Win7 64-bit computer, you have two versions of Internet Explorer: IE 32-bit (the default) and IE 64-bit.

The executable for IE 32-bit is located here:

         C:*Program Files (x86)**\Internet Explorer*iexplore.exe

The executable for IE 64-bit is located here:

         C:*Program Files*\Internet Explorer*iexplore.exe*

See this "sticky" for more details & info about IE 32-bit vs. IE 64-bit on a Win7 64-bit computer: http://answers.microsoft.com/thread/babaa5f8-ff06-4ea2-aef6-a9416d65f981

Welcome to the wonderful world of 64-bit computing!

What you want is the 32-bit version. It has the new Chakra Javascript engine, making it the fastest of all browsers. The 64-bit version is for amusement only until such time as all addons necessary for a complete web browsing experience are released..

[Thanks: Some users have reported that Action Center was offering IE9 (despite the fact that the IE team tells us this should not be happening yet), hence my question.]

If you run a manual scan for updates per http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/How-can-I-tell-if-my-computer-is-up-to-date, IE9 should be offered as an unchecked, Important (not "critical") & Optional update (right now).

If you choose to install IE9, Windows Update will use the Win7 64-bit installer for IE9.

Note: IE9 will not install without user approval.

I went to the Critical Updates site and IE 9 was showing as a Critical Update at:

Did you run a manual check for updates per http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/How-can-I-tell-if-my-computer-is-up-to-date or has the Action Center icon appeared in Notification Area [1] asking if you want to install IE9?

If Windows Update offers IE9, the detection engine "knows" that you're running Win7 64-bit & will install both IE9 32-bit and IE9 64-bit (which will replace, but not remove, the IE8 versions). If you later choose to uninstall IE9, the IE8 versions will be restored automatically.
