Ever since I did a clean system upgrade from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7 Pro I have been having problems with programs accessing files over the network. Adobe Illustrator has the most trouble with frequent hanging while saving files, followed by other programs like Sage BusinessVision not being able to access the data file, and InDesign returning a "unable to access the system resource..." error and then it shuts down.

When the programs hang, Windows Error Reporting attempts to find a solution to the problem, but it doesn't. The program processes cannot be stopped and the only way to continue is to press the reset button on the computer. If you attempt to Shut Down or Restart, the computer hangs at the "Logging Off" screen.

I installed the most recent Windows 7 approved Intel drivers for my network card hoping that would solve the problem but it is still occuring.

Here is a sample of one the problem details report from Illustrator:

I have the same error. I am logged into a corporate WAN from one side of the country trying to save a file from Outlook mail to my SharePoint on the other side of the country using a UNC mapped drive. My instinct says it is a timeout...but Microsoft, you can't pin this one on Adobe. It's a pure Windows 7, Office 2007, SharePoint 2007 environment. You could suggest it is something in our configuration, and that would be fair. :)

I'll test the problem in another user profile and report back.

However, regarding contacting the program manufacturer, the example I gave with Adobe is a symptom, not the cause. Other programs (not from Adobe) also hang when attempting to access the network drives.

What is the purpose of the "hang signatures" and "hang types"? Don't those numbers represent definitions?
