Shockwave is a 3rd party graphics/video player, currently from Adobe, installed as an add-on for browsers. Its main use is probably for the advertising content that litters web sites but it may also be used for the actual graphical content of the sites you visit. If you didn't install it yourself (from a pop-up on a Shockwave enhanced web page) then the OEM for your computer likely pre-installed it. Another possible source, especially for old (defunct) versions, is from game CDs. A lot of games installed Flash or Shockwave players to display video content (cut scenes, previews, advertising etc.). If your Shockwave version is a Macromedia product it is too old and that is probably why it frequently crashes.

Flash is another similar browser add-on. There isn't a stable working version of Shockwave or Flash for 64bit browsers so installing either will cause problems. If you are running 64bit Windows and you need to have these add-ons (ie. for YouTube etc.) then you can use the 32bit IE8 provided with Win7 instead of the default 64bit version IE8.

This  how  Microsoft  seems  to  avoid  a  clear  and  simple  answer to  a  simple  problem.  TG

So, the answer is NOT that my upgrade is coming. Win 10 is loaded. Honestly, the beta version had way fewer problems than I have now. Shockwave crashes all the time. Edge crashes. Cortana is non-responsive. I have to restart my computer 7-10 times a day due to crashes.

This is not the user experience I was hoping for.

"Probably because you are accessing a link which is contained in a +4 year old post".. wasn't helpful and very snide .  Which tells me you are *not* familiar with the fact that Adobe hasn't even addressed this issue up to 2015.

Personally, I find Adobe Shockwave to be the bane of ALL computers - 0 CS and once you add it - nothing but problems.

    Palcouk :

Your answer screams of one who wants to help but lacks ability and compassion for others not to mention that appearances are :

    1. you cannot accept the fact , that even in 20150 the same problem exists and "if you can't fix it .. live and let live dude.
    2. You decided to respond several times and each time (God Forbid) another person pops up with the same issue > lets the forum know "this isn't working" and is greeted by the above answer.

Take a breath and move on  =)  Perhaps someone else can help with this.

Adobe needs to take accountability for the products they "put out" for the consumer.

    mmmm,

I am using Vista Business and IE8 and Chrome. I have tried the method described above, but am still getting the same old error message of plug in crash.

The error message stops appearing only in IE8 with no add-ons, but this is not a solution.

Does anybody have a better suggestion?
