After copying the photos to the folder on your desktop
can you view them full screen in Windows Picture and
Fax Viewer? If_Yes_you may need to adjust your security
settings. Maybe your firewall is blocking access from the
Shutterfly site.

I've check files and all are jpeg files. What did I do wrong? I'm at wits end.
I'm using WindowsXP and haven't had this problem before March 2011, but now I do. File names for pictures are short and contain no goofy characters.

As an experiment...try copying a few photos to a new folder
on your desktop...then navigate to that folder from Shutterfly
and see if they will upload.
Tried doing just that, and still says 'files don't exist'.
I have and Shutterfly says the problem is with operating system for all jpeg files don't exist.
Why aren't you asking Shutterfly support?
