How can I manually advance a slide show?

I have a folder with several photos and want to show them as a slide show.  But all the Windows software (Picture Manager, Photo Viewer, etc.) advances automatically.  I want to advance each slide manually.  How can I do that without importing all the photos in PowerPoint?  Seems like there should be a simpler way.

    Hi

I would recommend that you download and install the free Windows Live Photo Gallery. This is a full feature imaging program. You can use it to run the photos in any folder as a slide show. When the slide show starts, click the pause button and this will allow you to manually control the slide show using the Arrow Keys.

You can download the latest version from the following website.

Use the left or right arrow keys to advance or go back manually.

I have a large number of slides loaded on my laptop in Powerpoint 2016 that I want to present to a group. How do I advance the slides manually from the podium, 10 feet from my laptop?

The slides will be projected to a large screen in the front of the room -- from the laptop through a projector.
