original title: cannot find files

Hi, new PC first time windows 7 user.

I have an issue I can't figure out.

When I am using a program (paintshop etc.) I can save a file (IE: .jpg) and find it using the program AND using windows serach (from the windowo logo start button). all is well that way.

When I am in internet explorer (any website) and I find a document. you get a pup up option to save or open it. I click open and all is well. (IE: a pdf file from the web opens Adobe, and Adobe can save the file just fine.

The trouble, if I click to save a file from the internet in Explorer 8 (Version 8.0.7600.168385) I can not find the file afterwards in windows logo search, browse or using the software that should open it.

At first I figured I didn't save it so I went back to the webpage, clicked to save to my PC and I get the popup disk browser. when I am in that I can see that the file is there (in this case the folder is *username*\documents in my C: drive

I can not figure this out.

I went back to several websites and all file types (doc, pdf, jpg, xls etc) same results. When I save from the WWW I can not find them. When I save from the program I can find them.

I went back to the website. clicked to save. get the C: drive disk browser open to save. I see the file. I [right click] it and open it with the proper program selection and it opens just fine. I re-save it from the program (with out changing the file name) and I can now find it in regular search and C: drive browse.

UGH! help

Are we stuck with this problem? Is there a fault with windows 7 that has not been figured out?

    Hi

Like I said in my first post. When I save a file in a program all is well.

When I am in a website and get a popup that shows the disk browser which gives a choice on locations to save in, this is where I get the trouble.

I can not find any files saved in this method.

I checked all the links you did and still can not find these files.

The trouble seems to be the popup is saving with properties that do not let me find them.

I think these are java popups but I am not 100% sure.

How do I check a pop up to let you know what it is?

I can take a screen shot but I can not find a way to attach it here.

    Hi GBwoodshed,

    ·         How are you trying to save the files?

**Method 1:**I would suggest you to perform check disk and see if it helps.

    Check a drive for errors

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Check-a-drive-for-errors

Important:  If any data available on the hard drive might be lost, when performing chkdsk, as the chkdsk tries to repair that affected sector.

    **Method 2:**Change the file location

    Save a file

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Save-a-file

    Find a file or folder

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Find-a-file-or-folder

Method 3: If that does not work, create a new user account and check. If it works in a new user account, then probably your user account may have been corrupted and would need a fix.

    Create a user profile

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-user-account

    Now check for the issue.

Follow the below provided link to fix the corrupted user profile
