Computer Reboots Every Hour

Anonymous

My computer reboots its self every hour, on the hour. The first time I had this issue, I re-installed Windows 7 64bit because I wasn't sure of the copy given to me. It worked great for a few months and yesterday it started to do it again. I have sleep mode turned off, display will never turn off, also I have it so it doesn't automatically reboot, but it is almost as if I'm holding the power button to shut it off. The only warning I get is the power supply will rev up and just restart. If I could get any help, it would be greatly appreciated.

1 Check the times against the tasks in Task scheduler to see if the crashes are happening when one of them runs.

Type, scheduler into the Start menu search box, select Task scheduler, in the middle of the opening screen is Task status - use that to identify the tasks starting at the relevant times.  Look at any suspect tasks in its library in the left pane.  If it doesn't seem to be a necessary Windows function then disable it [select it then click Disable in the right-hand pane] to see if the symptoms go away.  Post the results here.

2 It could be an overheating problem so hopefully someone will post advice about that next.

3 It could be an infection but it's an odd one.

I know this is an old post, but my reply may help someone else coming across this post with this issue.  My symptom was exactly the same as Anbisja here.  My PC shut down anywhere between 15 minutes and 18 minutes after the hour all day today.  It was roughly every 61 minutes for about 8 or 9 hours.  I scanned my PC with Kaspersky's TDSSKiller.  It found a "medium" risk - sptd.sys in my windows\system32\drivers folder.  I couldn't find very much info on the risk online, but I decided to delete it anyway using TDSSKiller.  After that, no more reboots.  The reason i doubted it was any kind of heating issue was because of how consistently the reboot was happening every hour.  A PC doesn't get hot every hour for 8 or 9 hours in a row.  If it restarts from overheating, it should do it again within a few minutes.  Anyway, hopefully this helps someone else out there.

I have the same problem with my Gatweway GT5628. Everyone says "overheating". It isn't. I ran CPU Temperature and it's quite a bit below the maximum. And why are the reboots exactly, every hour right down to the minute? It isn't random.
