Hello forum,

I been trying to install Windows 7 64 bit SP1, but it keeps failing and recommending me to download the KB947821, System Update Readiness Tool, to check for the error. I downloaded the hotfix, but whenever I start the installation, it just stands there after the "Initializing Installation" step. Currently tried disabling completely Windows Firewall, cleaning my registry of any errors, disabling my AV(avast!). Please help fix this problem, and don't hesitate to ask for any details needed for fixing the problem. Thank

HiFernandoRLD**,**I would suggest you to place the computer in Clean Boot follow step1 to place the computer in clean boot and then try to install the article KB947821 and see if you are able to install , once you install then download and install windows7 service pack1 from the following link.

Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=c3202ce6-4056-4059-8a1b-3a9b77cdfdda&displaylang=en

once you install windows 7 service pack1, don’t forget to put the computer back to the normal mode follow step7 from clean boot article.

I thought it had stalled too when the progress bar hit the 3/4 point after 20+ minutes.  I had to go somewhere for a couple of hours and when I returned the install was complete.  So I don't know the exact time elapsed.  I immediately did a restart and then had a successful run of Windows Update.
