Out of frustration, I decided to try the MFC-8640D printer drivers for my MFC-8840D shared printer. Thus far, it has been working.
Brother MFC 8840D: No Printer Drivers In Windows 7
I too have a problem getting my Brother MFX 8840D to work as a printer with Windows 7. The Brother site says that 7 will install the drivers needed automatically, but it doesn't install the printer driver. I show a problem and doesn't locate the driver. Is there a simple way to get this thing to work?
Thanks!

2011-05-05T22:49:42+00:00 Well, installing the Vista 64bit drivers seem to work well enough. The install has stalled, but the driver is installed and printing. I've lost more billable hours trying to figure this out than it would cost to replace the machine with a newer one. But I'll be damned if I'm going to submit to Brother's and MS' scheme of planned obsolescence. Reduce Reuse Recycle.

2011-05-05T20:00:31+00:00 Yeah, that's not telling me anything I don't know. Thanks, though.
To anyone who's listening at MS, if a new OS obsoletes 2 year-old (maybe 3) hardware, then I'll send this new Sony back and go back to XP. I'm a professional, and I don't have time for forums and stuff that doesn't work. I need to print stuff on a perfectly good printer, in fact I just spent good money getting it serviced. I can't afford to waste billable hours trying to get incompatible software to work with hardware that works on every other common OS out there.
