Figured I would post here what I did to get MPIO on Windows 7 working.  This is basically the same as the above but with more clarification.  I'm using the following:

    Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64

    Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 x64

Note:  This is a "hack" meaning you should NOT run this in a production environment.

    -----Begin Steps-----

    • First, install MPIO on the server and restart.
    • Next, copy the following files from the following directories over:

    C:\Windows\System32 directory:

    Mpclaim.exe

    Mpiocpl.dll

    Mpiocpl.exe

    Mpioutils.dll

    C:\Windows\System32\en-US\ directory:

    Mpclaim.exe.mui

    Mpio.sys.mui

    Mpiocpl.dll.mui

    Mpiocpl.exe.mui

    Mpioutils.dll.mui

    • Put these files in the same directory on the Windows 7 machine.
    • Open Device Manager
    • Right-click the computer name and select "Add Legacy Hardware"
    • Select "Next -> Install the hardware that I manually select... -> System Devices -> Microsoft -> Microsoft Multi-Path Device Specific Module -> Next"
    • It will install the device but will generate an error.  This is OK.
    • Go to the following link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2460971?wa=wsignin1.0

    • From here, you can download and install a hotfix for MPIO that will install the driver and the associated mpio.sys update.
    • Reboot
    • This should put an entry called Microsoft Multi-Path Bus Driver in the Storage Controllers section of Device Manager.  There may be a way to install this the same way as the "Microsoft Multi-Path Device Specific Module" but I couldn't get it to work as it required an .inf file so I tried his method worked.  YMMV.  You may also see a second Microsoft iSCSI Initiator device under Storage Devices.  I uninstalled one of them.
    • Restart your Win7 box
    • Go to C:\Windows\System32 and open mpiocpl.exe
    • If the console opened then great!  If not...???
    • Finally, here is a link on how to configure and test:

    I hope this helps someone.

    Well - yes and no.

I invested quite some time getting MPIO to work on Windows 7 Professional.

MPIO is working however i couldnt get the data structures into WMI so mpclaim does essentially nothing.

You need some files from Windows Server 2008.

Start with installing mpio (included in win7pro) and msdsm (from server 2008) via device manager and put all mui and program files to their location.

mpiocpl.exe needs to work, then you can use the iscsi initator to configure MPIO for iSCSI devices.

This works because the storage subsystem is exactly the same between windows 7 and server 2008, win7 just lacks the multipathio package.

It worked for my installation after countless tries and debugs with procmon so while working i wouldn't suggest doing it.
