My Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 was working the other day, and now will not work.  I have tried batteries, turning it on and off, pressing and holding the USB button the the bottom of the mouse and even taking out the USB stick.  I have a Windows 7 computer, I don't know how relevant that is but I figured I should put that in there anyway.  ANYONE HELP!?

I was having the same problem and here's what worked for me:

remove the USB transceiver

open the DEVICE MANAGER

right click on MICE AND OTHER POINTING DEVICES and choose SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES

right click on UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS and choose SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES

insert the USB transceiver

Your computer should detect the mouse and function properly

I have to repeat this process pretty much every time I start my laptop, but it's only a couple steps and not really a huge nusiance.

Good luck.

My wireless mouse doesn't work and I am using it for a desktop, not a laptop. It has worked for months. How do I do the 'right click on MICE AND OTHER POINTING DEVICES' with my keyboard?

I am also using Windows XP, are the intructions still the same?
