can "virtual device driver .i386 unknown application" be safely removed, found in Default Programs-Set Associations:  Associate a file or protocol with a specific program. The other research done indicates not used in vista or 7.

·          Are you referring to the .386 file extension?

Step 1: If yes, you need not have to worry about and also it cannot be removed.

A 386 file is a system file used by older Windows 3.x systems. It enables certain hardware components to run correctly. "386" comes from the type of processor used in many early Windows machines.
