How do I (re-) enable Teredo and ipv6?

I need help with enabling Teredo and, thereby, IPv6.  What I recently changed is not apparent to me, but now my Homegroup is not connecting between my desktop (Win 7 Home + SP1) (-32 bit) and my laptop (Win 7 Home + SP1) (-64bit).  I am using fiberoptics with a router, and wireless Networking works just fine. The error messages circle around to the above question as a probable solution for the Homegroup connection.  Homegroup is not something necessary to me; I just get annoyed when something stops working that should.

What is the complete error message you receive?

Method 1: Run the HomeGroup troubleshooter and then check

Open the HomeGroup troubleshooterhttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-HomeGroup-troubleshooter

**Method 2:**Update the driver for Microsoft Teredo Tunneling Adaptor:

Here are the steps:

a. Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.‌

b. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

c. Look for Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface, right click on it and select ‘Update Driver Software’

d. Browse my computer for driver software, then select ‘Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer’.

e. Reboot the computer and check for the issue.

Method 3: Run the fixit to enable IPv6

    Back again,

    I tried "Change the Password" because that seemed a ready trial after so many errors.  I had the incidental probem of my laptop not printing wirelessly; and I thought that had to do with Network, not Homegroup.  My pleasant surprise!  Everything began working.  Maybe you can clarify what actually happened from a tech point-of-view.  I would be curious myself.

    Your Reply reiterates basically what I have written in my own reply to my own question - but in a much clearer, less anecdotal manner. Thank you.

    The error messages I was receiving had to do with the loss of functionality in Homegroup. I use the tried and true trial-and-error method. Mostly I was told that the Administrator had disabled the Teredo Tunneling Adapter - which I had not, at least, knowingly.  That needed to be re-enabled in order that IPv6 could operate, a protocal required by Homegroup.  Your Method 1 mostly told me that I had network problems that needed to be resolved first.  It did not give any specificity about where to look.

    As I circled around today, I nosed into Component Services and did discover in the Event log this code:  (Not helpful for me, but maybe you.)

    SessionName Homegroup Log
    FileName
    ErrorCode 3221225525        (See next Reply.  This formatting is defeating  me.)

    Just checking in to say that my problems have resolved.  This is what I did:

    • Viewed  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929852  and hit the Enable IPv6 button (FIX IT).  I had to try twice with the laptop.  (Not sure if this was the golden step . . . .  because Homegroups was still not responding.)
    • Returned to Device Manager (after some more reading) and hit Hidden Devices.  What a revelation - I cannot believe that I have missed that little item all these years.  Anyway, the Teredo Tunneling Adapter is listed under Network Adapters and was working fine.  There was no update for it.
    • Went to a Command prompt and typed in ipconfig /all . The Teredo adapter was properly listed in both machines.
    • Rebooted both computers a couple of times in here.
    • Finally, since the computers were reporting a homegroup but not "seeing" the computers, I considered "leaving" the group (wherever it was) vs. "changing the password."  The latter seemed less dangerous (given other reading).
    • And it worked.  The computers are listing each other and I am printing wirelessly again.

    I hope that my next mysterious problem is a long way off.
