'soundmax integrated digital HD audio' driver does not produce sound

Original Title: No sound after installing windows 7 toshiba m500

I have just installed windows 7 enterprise on my toshiba m500 portege laptop and no sound is coming from the speakers or headphones. I have installed the 'soundmax integrated digital HD audio' driver as the default high definition audio device driver did not work, but still no luck.

The problem first started when I moved my hard disk from my previous laptop of the same model to this one. All the other drivers except the audio driver were OK, and I tried re-installing the same driver I had installed previously but still got no sound. After several tries I did a fresh installation of windows 7 but still the sound does not work.

    What does the sound icon show on the system tray does it show volume bars or a red x.

    Try following http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/no-sound-in-windows & see if it helps.

    If the issue is still not resolved please post the status of the sound card in the device manager here to further identify the problem.

    The icon shows volume bars. In the device manager, the sound card is shown as working correctly, and drivers are updated.

    The trouble shooters in the link did not fix the problem
