How to extract files from Windows 7 installation CD?

I remember that under Win98 I can use SFC.EXE to extract any file from those .CAB files on the Win98 installation CD, and place the extracted files in any folder I want. Also, I don't need to know from which .CAB  the target file should be extraced.

The SFC.EXE in Win7 only replces system files. It does not extract and place any files as the SFC in Win98.

So, how to extract files from Windows 7 installation CD?

    Hi,

    ·         Why are you trying to extract the file from Windows 7 DVD?

    ·         Which file are you trying to extract?

Some of the files will be locked or in use by the system so you will not be able to replace them while booted to Windows 7. Hence SFC scan tool is used to repair any file corruption in windows 7.

By default design you cannot extract the files. You can copy and paste the file in your hard disk from Windows 7 DVD, refer to the article provided below:

    Hope this helps,

I tried to extract "Wordpad.exe" from the Win7 installation DVD because it had disappeared from my PC. Although I found Wordpad.exe later, I could not help wondering why there is no "official" method for extracting files from Win7 installation DVD, forcing us users to rely on third party utilities, such as 7-Zip.
