I recently purchased the Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 and it works perfectly under Windows 7 64.

However there is a battery indicator LED light on the top of the mouse that shows various indications obviously for the state of the battery but I don't appear to be able to find what they signify despite searching.

The indications are as follows;

  • No light shown,
  • Steady green light shown.
  • Steady red light shown
  • Pulsating red light shown.

I would be pleased if anyone could inforn me what each respective state shown by the LED is indicating.

    I have the same mouse.  When the battery is good the green light will come on for approx 5 seconds when the mouse power button is turned on and will then go to no light. I'm less certain about the red lights but if my memory is correct, when the battery is starting to get low the red light will come on for a few seconds when the power is switched on and then go to no light and I believe will go to the pulsating red light when critically low.

    I have had a breakthrough with the mouse. I have no idea what the problem is, but it seems that I have a flashing red light. This is the original battery, and I've used the mouse frequently but sparingly, for 2 months (amount of time I've had the mouse). Today, I took out the battery and tested it with a battery tester. This tester has a level indicator (shows bars indicating different life percentages). I found that the battery was only 75% used. Basically, it is flashing red waaaaaay before the battery is dead. My advice is to keep using the battery until it dies completely and you can't use the mouse without the new battery. you may actually get at least 5 months with the battery, depending on what you use.

    Feel free to pass this on, as it may help people. Good luck with your mouse :)

    After a year I've found that despite using either high capacity rechargeable or high capacity alkaline batteries they won't last more than 2-3 days at the most. I can't even get 10 days let alone weeks or even the months!

    This mouse really does eat batteries and I certainly would not recommend it as there appears to be a design fault for it to do this. Microsoft do nothing about it despite many people compaining about it. We can't all be wrong! Due to this it's a substandard product.

    Microsoft should do the decent thing like a reputable company and recall them all to issue people with a correctly designed and working mouse that will adhere to their published specification of up to 10 months battery life.

    I have chosen to go with the high capacity rechargeable batteries. I think it is cost effective in the long run. It seems to last somewhat longer and with the multiple cell charger I always have one at the ready  (unless the grandchildren steal them for their toys.<g>)

    Many thanks for your reply giving the details of the indications for the battery indicator LED.

    I have to say that the battery life isn't very good on this mouse as, even with meticulously switching it off, the battery (alkaline) has only lasted 1 month which is a tenth of the stated life. Or should I only use it for 5mins each day?
