    Hello khalidosman,

I would disable Magnifier and then see if you can reset it so it is not stuck in Docked mode.

    Click on the Start button.

    Go to All Programs

    Click on Accessories

Click on Ease of Access Center

Then click on 'Make the computer easier to use'. This opens many options. Uncheck the box for 'Turn On Magnifier'. Click OK.

    This should undock your Magnifier.

If you are using Aero, you should only get the option for Full-screen mode and Lens Mode.

    Hope this helps.

I tried LoneSwan's suggested method & it didn't work on my PC.  I found another method that seems to work:

Using regedit, modify the following Windows registry item to 0: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ScreenMagnifier\ClassicDocked

    Hope this helps.

No response in two and a half years!!!

      Okay then... I just encountered the same problem that "DougRH" described in excellent detail. {Thanks, but no thanks to the "answer???" proposed by "Marilyn O".}

I wasted over an hour researching, then banging my way to a solution. The other view functions are not available if using Basic desktop (not Aero Theme} as "Nathan R" correctly pointed out. This gave me the clue I needed.

ANSWER: switch to an Aero theme. Then cycle through the two other (now available) view modes. After flipping through this a couple of times, the "Docked" view window ~magically~ reappeared: resized and reset to the center of the display screen. At which point, I carefully dragged said window to the far right side and centered there. Then, switch back to Basic desktop.

There are reasons I do not like Aero. There are reasons why an option like "Magnifier" may be a requirement for some. It is <ahem> unfortunate that those that need the Magnifier tool are likely to be penalized for its use in favor of _marketing eye candy_.

Since I found this forum thread near the top of a Google search, it is probable that others may locate this FIX, thus saving needless aggravation for an Annoyance that should have been addressed ages ago... but then "they" were too busy creating new fun with #8.x.

    Hi,

    ·         Is your Aero theme working without any issues?

    Note:

Full-screen mode and lens mode are only available as part of the Aero experience. If your computer doesn't support Aero, or if you're using a theme other than an Aero theme, Magnifier will only work in docked mode.

**Method 1:**Change the theme to Aero Theme and check.

Step 1: To use an Aero theme, refer the link below:

Why are some visual elements being automatically turned off?

Step 2: If that does not help run the Aero Troubleshooter.

    Open the Aero troubleshooter

    Method 2:

Press the key Ctrl+Alt+F  to switch to full-screen mode in Magnifier and see if it works.

    Greetings to one and all,

    Win7 x64

I have been using the Magnifier just fine and inadvertently docked it at the top of the screen and now I can't get it un-docked. )< 8(

I cannot 'drag it' away from being Docked at the top nor move it to any other edges of the screen.

'Docking it' with the drop down menu in the Mag.Control when it is active or using Ctrl+Alt+D will not UnDock' it. This should be a switch between Docked and Un-Docked modes.

There are no 'check boxes' in the method you suggest above. Nor if I go to it in the Control Panel.

All that happens when I click on the 'Magnifier' in either of these sequences is that it starts the Magnifier again docked to and stuck to the top of the screen.

Such a simple and basic thing that should be able to both Dock and UnDock it in seconds, not waste relatively significant amounts of time trying to track down what shouldn't be necessary in the first place.

So what is the solution to this apparently highly technical and involved complex problem please?

If no one here knows, suggestions on where I can I find the answer?

I'm NOT going to pay a MS tech to find out how to do what I should just be able to drag it away from an edge of the screen just the same way it got dragged there in the first place.
