Hey, I believe now their is a bass boost in windows 7. It's pretty much the same thing as in windows XP, except it kind of does the opposite. To reach it, go into the volume control dial like before in the taskbar, but then click the speakers icon inside of the window. Go to the enhancement tab, and there should be a couple enhancements you can put onto your sound. Only thing is, I tried to boost my bass, even though it's fine for me, but it kind of did the opposite. It opened up the amounts of bass I could hear, but it really dampened it. It makes it clear, but it kind of sucks. This might be because of my lack of sub, and the fact I use a headset, but still. It may work for you, but it doesn't work for me.
Where is the bass-boost in Windows 7?
I have a plantronics DSP 550 USB headset.
In Windows XP I could choose bass-boost, which gave a very nice sound in games and music. But that possibility is now not available in Windows 7. I can turn up the bass in the normal way, but this does not give the same bass at all. Plantronics has no drivers for this headset. Why is this option now removed?

2011-03-18T18:45:22+00:00 Hi,
“I can turn up the bass in the normal way” How did you do this?
Step 1: Let’s try these steps and check.
a. Click Start, type mmsys.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
b. In the Sound dialog box, click the Recording tab.
c. Click Microphone, and then click Properties.
Note Make sure that Working appears under Microphone. If Working does not appear, click Microphone, and then click Set Default.
d. In the Microphone Properties dialog box, click the Custom tab.
e. Select the Microphone Boost check box.
f. Click the Levels tab.
g. Adjust the volume slider to the level that you want, and then click OK.
h. Click OK to close the Sound dialog box.
Step 2: adjust Windows volume settings
a. Double-click the volume icon in the task bar.
b. Click Mixer.
c. Move the sliders up or down as appropriate.

2011-03-18T20:40:38+00:00 Hi Umesh
Step 1 is the microphone-boost not the bass-boost
Step 2 is the only way I can increase the bass, but
this does not give that bass-sound I had in Windows XP.
I have taken a screenshot from Windows XP and
Windows 7, so you can see that there is an option
missing in Windows 7.

2011-09-15T10:53:04+00:00 ya it seems like the volume on everything else gets turned down, but the bass gets amplified. ive got some sick subs in my headphones with bass boost and i just love it, always have it on (especially when im listening to dubstep =D). ive toggled the boost a bit on computer speakers with no sub and the no sub sounds just like you were describing. i think without a sub you wont see much of a benefit to turning on the boost.
