This appears on re-boot and as it is a set up file, trys to set up.  Appeared when trying to download an HP printer driver.  HP has no clue how to get rid of it.

Hi,

TrayApp is a software application that is installed with software that is needed for HP printer products used with a computer system. This error occurs because either the installation of the program never completed or because one of its files has been removed from the registry. To correct this issue and remove the trayapp.msi error, the missing file needs to be reinstalled

a.     Attempt to either restart Windows or open the HP software (whichever brings up the error message).

b.     Insert the installation disk into the computer when the error message appears. The disk will have been included when the HP computer was originally purchased.

c.     Click "OK" on the error message window. The installation disk will now run. When asked if you would like to repair or reinstall the software, chose "Repair." The installation disk will now scan the system to see what files need to be installed and corrected.

d.     Click "OK" when the repair has finished. The trayapp.msi error should no longer appear.

The printer software on CD does is not Vista compatible.  For that reason, I downloaded the driver from the HP site.  That's when the problem happened.  When I get the tray app error, I again download the driver, but get the same results.  I have opted to remove it from the start up file using msconfig.  I know it's still there, but at least it doesn't pop up each time the system reboots after a windows update.  I will save your reply and thank you very much for taking the time to type such a complete response.

This was the best advice for me :)

The missing trayapp.msi message kept coming up at start up and was so annoying.

I couldn't uninstall HP printer for some reason and when I tried to sort it out another way, suggested on other sites, I couldn't!

Using the above advice, I went to START... typed in ..msconfig.    clicked on START UP in the pop up box and then unchecked HP digital.

I restarted my computer and happily I no longer have the annoying message at start up now :)

Thanks for the advice and help.

    Brillaint. Thank you so much.

I too went to START - typed in - msconfig - clicked on START UP in the pop up box and then unchecked HP digital (I had two instances in the list).

This worked a treat. No more annoying pop up for the TrayApp. Thanks again.
