I have a Dell Inspiron 1011 with 320 GB & want to begin writing a novel so am wondering what I would need to add to my current programs and memory in order to uupgrade this computer.

You will need some type of word processor, Microsoft Word contained in Microsoft Office is good.
As for memory, I think you mean disk storage space and you should be okay with a 320GB disk depneding how much other stuff you have stored. How much free space do you have on you disk?
An important thing to remember, backup your data (novel) often to an external drive or else if anything goes wrong you will lose all your hard work.
