How do I install PageMaker 7.0.2 in Windows 7

PageMaker 7.0.2 will not install into Windows 7 Home Ultimate.  Suggestion by Microsoft Compatibility pages is to install a free update from the vendor but it is not possible to install an update unless one can first install the main program. Clicking on the "INSTALL" button has no effect whatsoever.

Adobe PageMaker is not compatible with Windows 7. You will need to look into an alternative solution such as upgrading to either Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 Ultimate edition and download the free Windows Virtual PC with Windows XP Mode software and use it through that.

Ignore the part about Hardware Assisted Virtualization, that is no longer required to use Windows XP Mode.

Please note, there is no such thing as Windows 7 Home Ultimate. Always provide the correct description of the software you are using.

This depends on your situation. If you have an available copy of Windows XP you can do what Andre suggested above for free otherwise you will need to either upgrade or purchase a copy of Windows XP which will be hard to find.

As far as upgrading your Windows 7, assuming you have Windows 7 Home Premium, the cheapest would be to get the upgrade from that to Professional using the anytime upgrade: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/list/parentCategoryID.44066700/categoryID.50726200

While not an expert I have been using Pagemaker 7 since it came out. I used it with XP, Vista and currently use it using Windows 7 Home Premium 32 and 64 bit  as well as Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. It seems to work just the same as it always has.

You might want to investigated the capabilities of Adobe InDesign CS PageMaker Edition and see if it would be a suitable substitute:

Thank you very much for your oh so prompt response.  Yes, I had kinda suspected it was going to be necessary to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate and eventually to XP Mode.  Unfortunately for some of us Adobe just haven't pursued PageMaker but there is really no other program with the fine controls offered in PM7.

Sorry about the program name, you can see where my mind was wandering, my laptop came with Home Premium of course.
