dont just direct me to microsoft link - its actually a link for vista only
there is no windows 7 update as far as i can see

Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 is compatible with the following windows 7 editions:
• Windows 7 Enterprise
• Windows 7 Ultimate

Ya but that atricle redirects to the same page that says "Vista Only". For grins, I tried installing it on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and it of course failed. Please advise on a location that ACTUALLY has the Windows 7 64-bit installer.

So you would be okay to download WMDC 6.1.

by clicking on the link provided it goes to a choice of 32 and 64 bit. By clicking on either of the two results in a link for download for vista as stated in the title of the page!
