retrieving cut, unpasted folders

Hello,

I have cut 2 documents (files) from 'My Documents' to paste into another folder.  Somewhere along the line, I have 'lost' these 2 files files.  I have unfortunately not backed up yet as I've just installed windows 7, and firslty wanted to move and clean out files and folders before I do this. So not backed up.  It appears to have gone into a 'black hole'.  Would anyone be able to assist me in retrieving the files?

It is possible I may have overridden these files by cutting and pasting another file, and if so... have I actually lost it...?

Many help for any assistance...

Sandy

    Hi Sandy

Yes, if you cut a file followed by cutting another file, then the first file will be lost.

You may be able to recover the cut files using the Previous Versions component.

    1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the folder where the files were stored.
    2. Right click the folder and select the Restore Previous Version from the menu.
    3. In the Previous Version dialog, select a version with a date and time prior to when you cut the files.
    4. Select the Copy Button. Select the Desktop as the location for the copy and click the Copy Button.
    5. Go to the Desktop, open the copied folder and look for the files.

If the files are there, move them out of the copied folder to the Desktop. You can then delete the copied, previous version of that folder.

    Let us know the results.

    Regards

Also, I recommend copying rather than cutting when moving important files. After the file has been confirmed as having appeared in the new location then go back and delete it from the original location.
