Original Title:Another 0x81000039 Backup Error

Hi All,

I get the following error 0x81000039 when my backup reaches 57% just after the stage "The Creation of a system image of (C:) was ended." I'm using a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit PC running MSE v2.1.1116. I have already tried a suggested fix to change the NTLM authentication level:

  1. Click Start. Enter “gpedit.msc” in the Start Search box.
  2. Locate to Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\
  3. In the right pane, double-click on “Network security: LAN Manager authentication level”.
  4. Change the level to “Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”.

However this did not work! I've only had one successful backup (the first time I tried) since then nothing but failure. I'm saving the backup to an external hard drive [Iomega eGo] using a USB cable. Any other suggestions to get around this problem?I hate waiting an hour just to find out that it fails in the same spot everytime.

Kind Regards

    Hi Palcouk

If you had fully read my two posts you will see that I have covered everything in those posts for which you have provided a link for. But I still have an issue with Windows 7 Backup!

    Hi Shariff,

Method 1: of your suggestion is basically the gpedit.msc stuff which I have already completed.

Next I did the following: right clicked on the root of the external hard drive --> choosing Properties.

I the Properties Dialog Box I chose the Tools Tab and clicked the 'Check Now' button under Error Checking selecting both check boxes:

    1. Automatically fix file system errors.
    2. Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

and clicking  the 'Start' button to begin the process. More than two hours later everything came back fine. It should as it is nearly a brand new external hard drive. But when I went to run the backup, it failed in the same spot with the same error message 0x81000039 'the semaphore has timed out'.

I therefore tried Method 2: I temporarily disconnected from the internet, turned off my Firewall, and turned off my anti virus which was MSE v2.1.1116 and tried running the backup again, this time it failed in the same spot, but I got a different error code:

0x8007045D 'The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.'

Unfortunately for me I have no log file created under Windows --> Backup! Do you have any other suggestions as my external hard drive for all intend and purpose appears otherwise fine. I can view and interact with the drive as normal as with any other hard drive.

    Kind Regards

    Hi,

Are you on a domain (client server network)?

    Method 1:

You may refer to the below link and check if the resolution provided assist you -

    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprogeneral/thread/aa7bb210-516b-4b82-85ce-ca54983e5bdf

    Method 2:

If the issue persists I would suggest you to temporarily disable the security software like anti-virus, etc and check. Do not forget to enable the security software after the troubleshooting is done as your computer will be under risk.
