Using Rupee symbol in Notepad using Windows Fonts- How to?

Microsoft has issued an update/ Fix for Windows Vista & Windows 7 to enable typing Rupee Symbol in Word/ Excel using common Windows Fonts. It has been stated that one has to apply the Hotfix/ Update and then type 20B9 followed by Alt-X. This will make Rupee Font visible in the document int he same font, i.e. Times New Roman, Arial etc.

However, the method recommended above is not working in Notepad.

Is there any method available which can enable us to type Rupee symbol in Notepad using common Windows Fonts like Arial, Times New Roman.

    The update/ fix from Microsoft referred to above by me is the same as provided by you, i.e.

    One has to apply this Hotfix/ Update and then type Ctrl + Alt + 4 OR 20B9 followed by Alt-X. This will make Rupee Font visible in the document in the same font, i.e. Times New Roman, Arial etc.

    However, the method recommended above is not working in Notepad.

    Is there any method available which can enable us to type Rupee symbol in Notepad using common Windows Fonts like Arial, Times New Roman.

    I am talking about writing in notepad and not word.

    Hi,

    Create a PDF file of your Word document with font embedding enabled and that should preserve the character even if the font is missing.
