Hi,
As the issue is with Google Chrome I would suggest you to post your query in the Google forum for better assistance:
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Hello. Earlier today, I opened up Google Chrome and was given one of those Windows Firewall prompts that says "Google Chrome" is attempting to ..... I accidentally hit always block, instead of always accept and now I can't use Chrome. I get this message:
NS lookup failed. DNS is the web service that translates a website's name to its internet address. This error is most often caused by having no connection to the internet or a misconfigured network. It can also be caused by an unresponsive DNS server or a firewall preventing Google Chrome from accessing the network.
I have tried the following and none of them have worked.
Nothing has worked. I know this has something to do with the fact that I told the Firewall to block whatever Chrome was attempting to do, but I can't seem to unblock it!
Can anyone help?????????

Hi,

Why is it, over the years, that I have noticed the vast majority of supposed Windows or Microsoft higher-certified helpers cannot seem to actually read the questions asked by the original poster? Samhrutha, your answer to QW_895 is not only unhelpful, but if you were/are a Microsoft employee, then it is also highly irresponsible to blow off the OP by saying, "It's not our problem." Taking responsibility for one's own products is a strong first step in positive Public Relations!
Please, take note:
"Windows Firewall prompts... I accidentally hit 'always block'... " It worked before that, then not after that. It doesn't matter if it was Google Chrome, or Microsoft Word. The OP's problem clearly began with the Microsoft Windows Firewall.
So, can you offer advice to the OP, and the potentially millions of readers, on how to correct Windows Firewall when the user accidentally blocks an application, and the above mentioned solutions already tried fail to work?
Thank you,
Karmana
*PS - QW_895, if your Internet Explorer is also not working, try opening the Control Panel, going to Internet Options, moving to the Advanced tab (top right,) then clicking (near the bottom,) "Restore Advanced Settings."
I had the same problem, and without having to reinstall chrome, this worked for me:
Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Troubleshooting > Network and Internet > Incoming Connections
(OR)
Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Windows Firewall > Troubleshoot my connection (on left side)
* Keep clicking next, and wait until you get to the 'What are you trying to do?' window
* When I got to this point, I had an option that said something about testing the connection with Google Chrome.
I don't have the same options available again so I am telling you all what I remember. Select this option and click next.
* Keep selecting the appropriate options after , and if it gives the option to fix something, do try it. I had to do the Incoming Connections troubleshoot twice to finally get the internet to work.
* Try connecting to the internet again, and be sure to restart your computer to ensure the changes have an effect. Also update your antivirus (like Avast), and allow Chrome through Windows Firewall using Incoming/Outcoming rules:
Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Windows Firewall > Advanced Settings (on left side) > Inbound or Outbound Rules > (Ensure Google Chrome, any Wifi and Wireless settings is selected).
Hope it works out for everyone~
Hello there,
I have read the discussion and I would actually need help from somebody of you, please. I have installed Chrome with the alternative setup, I click to open it and try opening any page but it's not working. It says the problem is Firewall. I tried adding exception, adding program, clicking, checking, unchecking but it seems nothing changes whenever I hit apply. Obviously I am doing something wrong. Could somebody give me step by step instructions please? I am using Windows XP. Thank you in advance
Hi, Karmana,
Thanks for the reply! I was thinking this exact same thing when I saw Microsoft's response! I did figure it out, though. I should have posted my solution for other people with the same issue. I ended up uninstalling and then reinstalling Chrome. I didn't think that it would work, but it did!
