I have a new HP with Windows 7.  I'm trying to scan in legal size docs. with my printer/scan/fax machine.  The scan fax application in windows 7 doesn't show a paper size option for legal size paper.  I could perform this operation on my old XP computer.  Did microsoft forget to add legal size parameters in this application?

    Hello notnewbee,

Thank you for posting to the Microsoft Answers Forum.

You didn't give the model of your printer/scanner/fax machine so I can't direct you to the specifc manufacturer website. However, I would suggest

that you go to the manufacturer website of your printer and download the most current drivers for Windows 7. Sometimes if you use a driver that is not meant for your operating system, then your device may function and install but some of the features may not work.

If they don't have a updated driver, then try compatibilty mode for Windows XP and see if your printer will function correctly.

The information below will show you how you can make older programs run on Windows 7 here.

Please reply back and let us know if this helps to resolve your issue or if you still need assistance.

    Sincerely,

    Marilyn

I am also having the same problem. I'm trying to scan a legal size document with my HP 3050 printer/scan/fax machine. The Windows Fax and Scan application does not show legal as a paper size option. Does anyone know if there is a fix for this or if Microsoft is aware of this issue? I've tried downloading the latest drivers for the printer and this did not resolve the problem.

I am ALSO having this problem with my MFC 8460N and I have the most recent driver, so it is definitely a Windows problem ... An UNBELIEVABLE oversight on their part!  I would venture to say that legal documents are probably one of the most commonly scanned document sizes--NOT a dozen different versions of a "Japanese Envelope."

For the Brother DCP8065, which has a legal size glass surface, the Brother driver does not allow selection of the scan image size unless the feeder (single- or double-sided) source is selected -- that scan size option is grayed out for "flatbed.". In fact, it appears to scan in near-legal size -- i.e., the surface size of the "flatbed." FYI Brother released Version "A2" in Jan 2011, but we have't tried that one (change history suggests only installation is updated). -knowlengr

I have a HP 3030 AIO Print/Fax/Scan with an updated HP Universal Print n Scan Driver, same problem, no Legal Size option, so I cant scan Legal Size document at all.

Windows Fax and Scan seems to control the Paper Size, not so much of the Device Driver or options.

When I use Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard to Create PDF from Scanner, it will only scan Letter size from the Auto Document Feeder.

Whereby XPP will do them all.

Msft should be able to advise this short fall.

Marilyn-Support Engineer, your response to this post didnt address the issue of No option for Legal size in the Windows 7 - Windows Fax and Scan.
