    Hi,

    1. Does this happen only with a particular device?
    2. Were you able to use it before?

I would suggest you to follow these steps and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

    1. Click on start, go to control panel.
    2. Click on Administrative Tools.
    3. Go to Computer Management, and open Disk Management.
    4. Check if it is recognized correct there.

**Method 2:**Try running this below fixit and check if it helps: ****http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Tips-for-solving-problems-with-USB-devices

    Method 3:

If that doesn’t help, try posting the issue in the below forums and check if it helps:

If none of the methods on this page work, try opening your device and taking out the hard drive and replug it. Then put it back in. Worked for me :D

Chalk another one up for the "Initio Default Controller" problem, which has removed my seagate EHD, and now my portable hard drive isn't recongized in any of my usb ports.  I have several files on my portable hard drive and now I can't access anything.

Microsoft did an install today on my new computer with this initio default controller and now my portable hard drive isn't recongized in any of my usb ports nor on my other computer. I don't know what this is but if it is causing so many problems (which from what I am reading it is) why is Microsoft still installing it. What is this darn thing anyway. I have all my files on my portable hard drive and now I can't access anything. I have to pay Seagate to try to resolve this issue. Trust Microsoft.........
