Windows XP - mouse freezes

I am running Windows XP and all the latest patches.

For the last couple of weeks, the USB Optical mouse will freeze (not a wireless mouse).

The only way to recover the mouse function, is to un-plug the mouse from the USB port and re-plug in.

This is getting really annoying.

Any ideas how fix this issue??

Regards..................Elliot

I finally found a solution for the mouse freeze problem that has been a pain in the A** since I bought the wireless mouse and used it with my Windows 7 notebook. Try it to see if it works for me.

MOUSE FREEZE PROBLEM SOLVED!!! (I HOPE THIS HELPS)

    >>

The mouse freeze problem is most likely to be related to USB SUSPEND MODE kicking in as most mouse nowadays use the USB port to connect.

    >>

You may want to try this out. It works for me.

    >>

    Go to <Control Panel> select <Power Options>

    >>

Depending on which power plan you're in, either 'Balance' or 'Power Saver', select the <Change plan settings> accordingly

    >>

Select <Change advanced power settings> and expand <+USB settings> by clicking on the <+> sign

    >>

Expand further the <+USB selective suspend setting> by clicking on the <+> sign

    >>

    Set both <On battery> & <Plugged in> to 'Disabled' and click 'Apply'

    >>

THE MOUSE FREEZE (SUSPEND) PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR ME!!!

    Hope this is helpful.

My control panel ( WIN XP sp3) does'nt have the same control panel references you suggest we select and change.......????? The terminology is different....

    Power options - YES

Balance or Power options - NO

    Advanced Power settings - NO

    Expand USB Settings - NO

On Battery & Plugged In - NO

So whats up here... is your system a "MAC" ???

Unless I'm brain dead, none of your choices appear in my control panel.....Explain Please....

    Thanks

The sad truth is that the mouse freeze problem is back. I have searched in the forum for other solutions but so far to no avail.

I am currently using MS Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500 and just to make sure that the problem is with the mouse, I swapped that mouse over to my other notebook which is also running on Windows 7. The mouse freeze problem is replicated, which never happened before for my other notebook.

Conclusion, until Microsoft is able to solve this problem, I have switched over to Logitech. I bought myself a Logitech M235 Wireless Mouse last night and keeping fingers crossed that the mouse freeze problem will go away.

Life is too short to be stressed over mouse freeze problem.

    Hi Sysfrog,

What type of mouse do you have make and model?

It may be a simple fix by downloading a driver from the manufacturer...
