Hello, I am running win xp pro, svc pk 3, ie 8, x32bit.

I had been receiving an error in event viewer, system, for W32 time sync. Help box said not to worry if this was a home user computer, but I got tired of getting it all the time, daily, so I tried to find a way to get rid of it. On bing I found the above website, and tried to merge the nist servers to my registry but I kept getting the msg. :

Cannot import c:\doc and set\adm\dsktop\timeservers.reg: the specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.

the first msg would not access, and I assume that was because I had the registry open at the same time. Anyway after I could not import it, I just added the items to the registry manually.

My question is really did I perform correctly by copying the list of time servers in the text, pasting to a file, and then trying to merge?

Appreciate any assistance with this question.

    Just FYI:

If you see a message similar to this:

Cannot import c:\Documents and Settings\Jose\Desktop\enableit.reg:  The specified file is not a registry script.

You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor.

That either means that your registry import file is missing this top line (or it is the wrong syntax):

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

or the file you are trying to import is not a valid registry import file.

Hello, theValkyrie, my computer stays on 24/7. I restart it now and then, but the last time I got a w32 error the computer had been on for over 24hrs without a restart. Is there a way to check the battery?  Thank you.

    HI Elizabeth,

Based on your statements above , I would assume that your system time is out of sync.

The solution below provided may not work in your case if the problem is hardware-related. The CMOS battery on your system may no longer be working causing the computer to lose "track" of time whenever the computer goes OFF.

It's best to contact the computer manufacturer if that may be the case. Call DELL at 1800-624-9896

I tried both of the fix-its on your link. Both said they did not go with my operating system. I am on XP with svc pk 3  so I do not know why the msg said it was not compatible with my system. I can get rid of the w32 error by clicking update in date/time properties, I just get tired of doing that. Even after adding all the entries for nist to my registry I still get the w32 error.

Do you have any other suggestions and/or a reasonable explanation as to why a fix for and xp system will not work?

    Thank you.
