I can't install itunes 64 bit on Windows 7 64 bit home premium. Have tried all the recommended fixes to no avail (including latest version of itunes 64 bit setup

Is the windows 64 bit installer problem just a home premium issue? I read forums where users with other versions (ultimate) aren't getting this error.

Can a patch be downloaded to fix the windows installer error?

PC came with Home Premium pre-installed, so only have start up disk and not the full Windows 7 Home Premium cd to complete a full reinstall.

    Hi,

I had similar issues with my Windows 7 64 bit laptop & iTunes.  I finally have iTunes 10.5.1.42 installed, thanks to a friend who downloaded it to a CD using their Apple laptop.

The instal from the CD worked fine, where previous attempts using the direct download did not, despite trying lots of options, like disabling firewall and virus checkers, and using another download manager (Softonic) instead of iTunes.

Softonic downloaded iTunes 10.4 despite my selecting 10.5, and despite it saying it was downloading 10.5.  iTunes 10.4 installed successfully, unfortunately I needed 10.5 to update my iPhone OS.

When I previewed the iTunes 10.5 download (downloaded using iTunes), using 7-zip, the message 'broken file' appeared next to each file in the 7-zip screen.  So it looks like the issue was with a corrupt download.

Once I installed iTunes 10.5.1.42 from the CD I went to upgrade my iPhone OS using iTunes and my Windows 7 64 bit laptop, but guess what...corrupt download of the  iPhone OS file.  So the same friend upgraded my iPhone OS using their Apple laptop.  I then synch'd the iPhone with my own laptop.

    Windows Installer Errors troubleshooting:

You may follow the steps from the below link: How to troubleshoot problems that may occur when you install, uninstall, or upgrade a program on a Windows-based computer: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2438651

Step 1: Check the Windows Installer Service.

    1. Click Start Orb, in the start search box, type Services and press Enter.
    2. Scroll down and find the Windows Installer.  Double-click “Windows Installer” in the Services list.
    3. On the General tab, make sure the service is started under “Service status”.
    4. If the service is not already running, under Service status, click Start, and then click OK.

Step 2: Unregister and re-register the Windows Installer

    1.  Click Start Orb, in the start search box, type MSIEXEC /UNREGISTER, and then click OK .

    2.  Click Start Orb, in the start search box, type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER, and then click OK . After you run this command, the operation is complete.

    1. Now, try your installation again.

Step 3: Clean any pending installations

Check the following registry key and clean any entries in the key that you find:

Go to the Start Orb, type in Regedit and select enter.

If you get the User Account Control dialog box that states, Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to the is computer?, Click yes.

Modifying REGISTRY settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of REGISTRY settings can be solved. Modifications of these settings are at your own risk.

    Scroll to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress

Check the following registry key and clean any entries in the key that you find:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations

    Step 4: Check the permissions

Verify the System has Full Control on the following keys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer

Next, restart your computer and try again.

If still having problems, then create a new Administrator User account and see if the problem could be a corrupt user account.

Please reply back and let us know if this helps with your Windows Installer Error.

    Sincerely,

    Marilyn

    Dear Marilyn,

I have been trying to install the Itunes 10.4.1 for a week now.  It all started when I tried to upgrade to this version, but the installation never finishes. Per some support document on the Apples Support website,  I uninstalled Itunes from my system, together with Bonjour and Quicktime.  Ever since then, I cannot install Itunes and so my system no longer can access the Itunes store nor can I sync my iPhone.

Each time, the installation will go all the way to 95 %  downloaded, and then it will hang.  I have tried all the steps you wrote in your response, but nothing works.  I have uninstalled Norton360 and also Microsoft Security Essentials,  but the result is the same.

I have a Dell laptop running WIndows 7 64 bit.  I have tons of memory as well as disk space.

Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.  I can truly say I am very depressed now.

    Thank you.

    Amy
