Acer X223W 22" TFT LCD is recognized as a normal PnP monitor

I have installed windows 7 ultimate x64 after a major computer update. Looks nice and all but my acer x223w monitor is recognized as a normal PnP monitor

and although I can force it on 1680x1050 resolution, this does not work in games. And playing with 1600x1200 settings is not funny!

Acer only supports x32 drivers for vista on their website for some weird reason.

And of course I have the same problem when I plugin my acer H5360 beamer.

I don't exactly know if I have to thank acer or windows for this issue but I can not go back to an x32 version of windows with 8 gb ram and a amd 1090T.

Anyone got a solution for this problem?

I read a bunch of forums already filled with people with issues as well, but didn't find working solutions yet.

Although this thread is some five years old I still would like to add my comment to it.

I just set up an out the box Acer X223W 22" TFT LCD monitor on a PC running under W7Pro-SP1(64bit) and discovered that in "Devices and Printers" the monitor is shown as X223W but in the Device Manager it is simply set up as a Generic PnP Monitor with MS driver 6.1.7601.23403 2006-06-21 and of course the OS can not find an updated driver and Acer never supplied a 64bit driver for this monitor. Bottom line just eat what we feed you and stop complaining about the OEMs total lack of interest in the customers, they are after all "consumer" products and meant not to get support after they have been bought and the "warranty" is up.

I wasnt refering to Acer monitor drivers, but your system graphics driver and chipset drivers (and I dont mean via windows update)

Although since you have found from forums that many suffer this issue with that monitor, its probable that even the correct graphics/chipset drivers will make no differnce.

I wonder if the X225HQL monitor driver would function, as this supports both 32 & 64 bit win?

So far after the windows install and all the updates it told me all was fine and working.

Since this was not the case I tried to uninstall the drivers and install the drivers from the official cd, which was not working because it were 32-bit drivers.

Then I tried to get them from the official acer site, but on that site there were only 32-bit vista drivers. I tried them anyways but they are not working.

Then I went to look for them on google and it seems everyone who is running 64-bit windows 7 or XP or 64-bit Linux is having the same issues.

Ok in the nvidia drivers I can customize a resolution so I have my desktop on 1680x1050 which is nice. But it still tells analog display instead of acer x223w. And besides that as soon as I start a game I can't choose this resolution in game.

So I need to get suitable drivers.

Yeah well the chipset installation was about the first thing I did even before updating windows.

I also found a lot of people installing 32bit apps on 64bit windows which is pretty easy, it just doesn't work like that with drivers. There seems to be a way with C+ programming but if I could do that I would probably running linux without issues with windows ever again.

For the part on installing different monitor drivers like the x225hql it keeps telling I do not have that device so it won't install like I suspected.

For my hd beamer it's the same issue but I only use it for movies and series and vlc on 16:9 and the 80 inch screen looks fine.

But I am still pretty anoyed by the bad support on drivers for 64bit. The systems are ready for 64bit for years now, yet the support is like big companies who laugh at their customers.

Presumably you are using the graphics driver from that hw/pc makers site, and that makes no difference?
