Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator error - driver for Unknown device is not installed

Original title: Reinstalling Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator

In troubleshooting Bluetooth connection problems, I seem to have lost the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator and wondering where I can reinstall it? This is on a Bluetooth-enabled HP Envy 14-1211nr running Windows 7 x64 Pro. I have tried reinstalling the Broadcom Bluetooth driver from HP many times to no avail, what is missing is the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator.

Under Devices and Printers, my PC has the yellow notice symbol and when I go to Troubleshoot, it says "driver for Unknown device is not installed", and if I click Apply this Fix, the installation fails, saying "Problem with PnP devices"

Under Device Manager, I can find the "Unknown device" under Other devices and if I try to reinstall the driver (either automatically or manually, going to Bluetooth radios), it shows a certificate for "Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator" but if I click next, it says "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator. The system cannot find the file specified."

What file is it that Windows is looking for? Is there any way to fix this? Thanks!

It looks like I was able to get Windows to automatically reinstall the Generic Bluetooth Adapter and Bluetooth Enumerator by by uninstalling all the existing Bluetooth drivers and software, then running the 3rd-party Bluetooth Driver Installer (http://bluetoothinstaller.com/). Now I will try reinstalling the HP factory bluetooth driver and I think it should work. Either way, the Enumerator is back and Device Manager no longer shows any errors.

    Hi,

**·**Have you tried right-clicking the Unknown Device and****selecting Update Driver Software?

    · What is the make and model number of the Bluetooth mouse?

Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator comes into play when you plug the Bluetooth device without the driver wherein Windows 7 automatically installs its driver.

After Windows detect Bluetooth device, it is controlled by Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator and not the third-party driver.

Here's a way to install the bluetooth driver released by the manufacturer to fix problem.

Method 1: Rename the Bth.inf file

Rename the %WINDIR%\inf\Bth.inffile to Bth.bak before you install or reinstall the third-party device or stack.

To rename the file, follow these steps:

     1.     Click Start, click Run, type %windir%\inf in the Open box, and then click OK.

    2.     Right-click Bth.inf, and then click Rename.

    3.     Rename Bth.inf to Bth.bak, and then press ENTER.

Method 2: Install the bluetooth driver

****1.     Click Start, type devmgmt.msc in the Open box, and then press Enter.

    2.     Locate the device.

    3.     Right-click the device and then click Update Driver.

    4.     Follow the steps that appear on the screen in the Hardware Update Wizard to specify your own driver for the Bluetooth device.

I have tried this already (along with pretty much every other suggestion on the microsoft site). Can anyone explain what good renaming that file does anyway? The problem is not with the third-party driver (Broadcom Bluetooth 2070), it is with the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator. For whatever reason, Windows Update is not automatically re-installing the driver for the Enumerator.

I have tried clicking Update Driver Software, as explained in my first post, and neither a manual or automatic update worked.

The model of the Bluetooth mouse shouldnt matter in this case since it is the Bluetooth device on the computer which is not working, but for reference it is the Microsoft Bluetooth 5000 mouse.

Any suggestions on how to reinstall the Enumerator?
