Atheros Bluetooth Device problem in Windows 7

2011-03-05T07:43:43+00:00

I have Acer Aspire One D255E, and the sticker at the bottom of it says that its Aspire one D255E-13DQkk. I am facing difficulty in using bluetooth radio. I have downloaded Atheros Bluetooth Driver/16.0315.101.0/106.0 MB/2010/07/30 and Atheros Bluetooth Driver (3.0) (AR3011)/6.04.004.1/104.3 MB/2010/10/19 from your website but none of them is working. The system install Bluetooth suite properly and the icon do come up on the taskbar but I am unable to turn the bluetooth ON. I also tried Fn+F3 key but it only give the option of Wifi. Previously I used its bluetooth on Windows 7 Starter but its not working on Windows XP. I pressed Fn key and tapped F3 key but it did not give me any option to enable blue tooth. Rather windows prompt me that a new hardware is found and then I gave it the location where the driver of the blue tooth was residing. It then install the blue tooth and I manage to use blue tooth finally. But today again when I switched ON my laptop the status was same where it was. I thought I have to press Fn + F3 key again to enable blue tooth, but after numerous tapping I did not get anything. I was frustrated with all these things and I decided to install Windows 7 Professional. I manage to install Windows 7 Professional effortlessly. But the bluetooth problem is still there. I tried to press ALT+F3 and Fn+F3 but nothing happen. Here I would like to highlight one thing that when I purchased this laptop, it give me an option to enable/disable Wifi and blue tooth in a popup windows (I think Launch Manager was the program) but now when I am pressing Fn+F3 key it only activate/de-activate Wifi no popup to activate/de-activate wifi and blue tooth. I have installed Launch Manager even then it is not giving me option to activate/de-activate wifi and blue tooth. I have installed Windows 7 Professional as a clean install. I restarted my system in Safe Mode and manage to install Blue tooth. Then I shut down the laptop yesterday, but when I swtiched it ON today, it does not show Blue Tooth device in Device Manager. I tried to tap F3 key while pressing Fn key but it only turn On and Off the Wifi device, it does not give me any option for Blue tooth. Please advice what step should I take to install all the drivers of my laptop after doing clean install of Windows 7 Professional? Please be advised that I have tried to re-install Launch Manager but it is not giving me any option to enable/disable Blue tooth they way it gave earlier when I purchased this laptop. Let me tell you once again that when I purchased this laptop all the drivers and softwares were installed by default and when I pressed Fn + F3 key it opened a new windows and ask to enable/disable wifi and blue tooth.

I managed to install Blue tooth and it was working absolutely fine but today when I switched ON my laptop there was no Blue tooth installed. I do not know that after installing Bluetooth properly (and also used it after installation) why Windows does not show Bluetooth device in device manager when I turn my laptop ON after sometime.

    Hi,

As you have already tried installing drivers and also tried to reinstall the whole operating system the issue does not seem to be related with Windows  as per my research  it is possible that the issue is related with the  built in Bluetooth provided by the OEM (Original Equipment manufacturer).

Also Launch manager program is a program distributed by Acer which is the OEM.

Thus for further assistance on this issue I would suggest you to contact the Acer Support. The link for Acer support is provided below.

After hours of frustration trying to get my Atheros based Bluetooth 3.0 usb dongle to operate, I eventually had success with the following method.

    1. Delete all bluetooth drivers.
    2. Remove the bluetooth device from the hardware list
    3. Give your registry a good clean, restart pc
    4. VITAL - install ALL MS updates, hot fixes, sevice packs, etc. restart.
    5. Download  the relevant BT 3.0 driver pack in ZIP form.

         N.B. Do NOT install online.

    1. Unzip the files to a safe location
    2. Install directly from the cabinet file, the same might work for installing directly from the .INF file - but I'm not certain of this.
    3. insert your dongle - unless BTooth is already onboard the circuit board.
    4. Hardware should be discovered, BTooth icon appears, goes blue, dongle LED lights up.

Right click Icon and set it up - no rubbish proprietry loaders/suites required.

    Hope this helps -jim

You said tap F3 three while pressing ALT key? You must have wrote it wrong it must be Fn key and F3 key.
