I recently upgraded to Win7 Professional from WinXP SP3 Pro and I have lost the ability to burn CD's/DVD's.  I have an HP 1040 DVD Writer w/LightScribe and after purchasing and installing Nero10 I still can't use the burner.  Is there an update for the HP driver?  I have been to there website and the functions I need are not accessible.

    Hi Jerry,

    ·         Can you play the DVDs fine?

    ·         Is the DVD drive recognized by Windows?

Check to see if the following helps.

    **Method 1:**Run the following troubleshooter.

Open the Playing and Burning CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray Discs troubleshooter

**Method 2:**Follow steps from the article mentioned below.

Thank you for your reply. I have run both of these troubleshooters several times and I am still unable to write to the HP 1040i DVDWriter w/LightScribe. Both methods indicate no abnormalties and therefore they apply no fixes.  I have gone through an entire stack of new unformatted DVD's manufactured by TDK and after trying to format each disk, Windows replies it was unable to complete the format everytime.  I've tried dragging & dropping and that doesn't work.  I recently updated from WinXP-Pro to Win7-Pro and that's when I began having trouble.  I am experiencing blue-screen errors as many as 4-5 times daily.  My only solution is to crash the machine and reboot.
